Summertime is probably the most anticipated time of the year for kids besides Christmas, because it means there is no school and free time, but it’s not so fun for parents. I’m sure most parents like myself are dreading to hear the most the irritating phrase “I’m bored.”
In the past summer break had the tendency to stress me out. Having to be creative about ways to fund a fancy trip was the worst. Now, I know there are tons of things to do with the kids that won’t break the bank and will create lasting memories. So instead of the normal go-to activities like going to the playground, I am listing 5 activities to keep your kids stimulated and create memorable experiences as well.
1. Check out a Drive-In movie
Enjoy a relaxing movie in your pajamas if you like! You can also bring your own snacks and if you want to get out the car, bring a blanket so you can lay out and watch a flick. Kids will find this so fun and it’s a great way to be able to talk to each other during the movie without disturbing the other patrons since they can’t hear in your car!
2. Visit a Children’s Museum
Most cities have a children’s museum, and if yours doesn’t, search a nearby city to travel to. Activities at a children’s museum are designed to spark imagination and inspire learning through play
3. Camp out in the backyard
There’s nothing like roughing it outside in the elements knowing you are a few feet away from normal life. Get a tent and some flashlights and let your inner girl scout come out!
4. Host a weekend sleepover
Kids love sleepovers and when it’s extended it’s even better! Try staying up all night playing games and telling stories while creating memories
5. Take a road trip
Can you think of a better adventure than getting in the car and just driving through different states? Be spontaneous and just grab a map and plan as you go. Visit landmarks in cities you have never been, and the best thing is no stress. Just Go!
