Hey you guys! Your favorite naturalista is back and I am here to share with you a few hair tips. It’s officially summer. It has been hot y’all. I mean really HOT even before summer began which means staying hydrated and protecting your hair from the sun and humid temperatures is pertinent. How do we protect our hair Rachel? I am so glad you asked.
Here are a few things to keep in mind this summer:
Start the summer season with a hair trim.
Trim those dead ends off and give your hair a fresh start this summer season. Dead ends can halt your growth and keep your hair from flourishing. Always consider healthy hair over length. Going to a professional is highly recommended, but if you have perfected the art of trimming your twists, go for it!
Keep Yourself Hydrated.
Not only is water intake important for health reasons, but hair reasons as well. We are all in search of the best hair products, which is vital for healthy hair, but there is something that we all have access to: Water. Water is one of the best sources for our hair and sometimes the one thing it needs the most. It’s accessible and can hydrate our hair almost immediately. Our hair’s porosity can play a major role with hydration, but nonetheless important, no matter what type it is.

Social media has tons of inspiration for your next protective style. Naturals have taken braids and given them several creative styles by adding beads, sting, and even wire. These styles can last for a few months if properly maintained. Protecting your hair in this way can have a long-term positive effect. Other options are wearing head wraps. They are stylish, chic and only take a few minutes to tie on your head. Check out a recent blog with protective style inspirations!

No matter what season it is, deep conditioning is a MUST. I do it weekly. It’s routine. I can do it in my sleep. This has been my routine for years now. I can say, doing this has maintained my hair’s health. Below is one of my favorite lines with Shea Moisture. As an ambassador, I have the privilege of being able to try new products from the company. The Hydrate and Repair Collection is a must-have this season. The weather can be so harsh on our hair. This collection is meant to bring resilience to brittle and dry hair while replenishing lost moisture.

Clarify hair with shampoo
With all of the deep conditioning, remember to add a clarifying shampoo in the mix. You will need this to help rid of the build up from product use. Your curls will feel heavy after a while if not cleansed regularly.
I hope this helps with your summer hair routine, as is it always helpful to me! Until next time my natural sisters.
